In honour of National Doughnut Day, I’m sharing with you my favourite Montreal destination for delicious doughnuts: Léché Desserts.
Located in St Henri, a neighbourhood in the city’s Sud-Ouest, this café specializes in gourmet artisanal doughnuts. The beautiful open kitchen with exposed red brick backdrop gives customers a peek at the bakers hard at work. Sunlight filters through shelves displaying mixing bowls and measuring cups. These doughnuts are gorgeous creations crafted with local ingredients. Alongside sweet treats, Léché serves savoury dishes such as sandwiches and salads. Vegans, rejoice! Léché accommodates with vegan doughnuts as well. Léché offers many services beyond their café: private events + cooking and baking demonstrations + restaurant supplier + catering + delivery. If you’re on the go, hot pink boxes are waiting to be filled with your choice selection. These doughnuts are great for all kinds of occasions. I’ve given a box of these as a thank you gift and received one as a going away present.
Léché Desserts was founded by pastry chef Josie Weitzenbauer. Josie and I met when we were students at culinary school in the professional pastry program. Léché’s opening party a few years back got me excited about this venture. It’s really impressive to see such a talented young woman entrepreneur/pastry chef at the helm of a professional kitchen. So refreshing and inspiring ❤
Léché bakers make a killer lemon meringue doughnut (pictured above) but my all-time favourite Léché creation is the seasonal Baileys doughnut.
Léché always comes up with special doughnut flavours for the holidays and shifting seasons. Some of their latest unique creations:
Vanilla cake doughnuts
Cookie dough doughnuts with oreo buttercream
Poppy seed & grapefruit doughnut
Creamsicle doughnut
Dangerous News: On my most recent Léché visit I took my boyfriend to treat him to the lemon meringue doughnut since he loves that dessert flavour…which is when I realised there’s a bus that takes me from Monkland Village straight to Léché in LESS THAN 10 MINUTES.
Here’s to many more doughnut days in the future!
