Bas-Saint-Laurent

Earlier this month, Olivier and I went on a roadtrip to the Québec region of Bas-Saint-Laurent for Labour Day weekend. Two decades have passed since I last visited the region to see my grandmother in Rimouski and to stop by the small village where my mother grew up. Yearning to discover more of La Belle Province, we headed to the village of Kamouraska. We travelled along the scenic Route des Navigateurs for beautiful views of the St-Lawrence River as we passed by picturesque villages.  A Must when in Kamouraska: a stop at Boulangerie Niemand for fresh breads and seriously delicious pastries.  Loved the patisserie strietzeln aux poires et chocolat noir, parfumé à la cardamome.  My coup de coeur during this trip was the Parc National du Bic. Its rugged natural beauty mesmerized me. After a day spent hiking the park’s trails, we celebrated Oli’s birthday with one of my favourite restaurant meals at Les Affamés du Bic in the nearby Village du Bic. From its lighthouses and fields of sunflowers to its gastronomy, sunsets and salty breeze, le Bas-Saint-Laurent is not to be missed.
